Terminal Information – Departing

Edinburgh Airport has one terminal. Check-in and drop off your luggage on the ground floor, then head upstairs to proceed through security. The departure lounge is large and glitzy, with a wide range of luxury shops and places to grab a bite to eat. Airport favourites like World Duty Free, Dixons Travel and Boots all have a base at the airport as do designer stores like Kurt Geiger and Jo Malone. There are lots of places to grab a bite to eat, whether you fancy a coffee and a croissant or something a little more substantial. Thermidors Seafood & Champagne Bar is a must if you fancy a bit of luxury. The airport  also has an art gallery, a spa, and two hours of free Wi-Fi for every passenger. There are two executive lounges (Aspire and No.1 Traveller) if you want to get away from the general hubbub.

Terminal Information – Arriving

Lisbon Airport's arrivals hall is in Terminal 1. The airport is well connected to the city by public transport. There's a metro station at the airport: it takes about 20 minutes to reach Saldanha in central Lisbon. Single tickets cost €1.40* (about £1), plus 50* cents (about 35p) for the rechargeable 'Viva Viagem' card. This can be used on all public transport in the city centre, including the rambling old trams, the Santa Justa Lift, and the funiculars. You can also use the tickets on the local buses, five of which serve the airport. There are also two shuttle buses: one goes to the city centre while the other services Lisbon's financial district. Tickets cost €3.50* (about £2.50).

If you'd prefer to avoid public transport there's a taxi rank immediately outside the terminal. Prices are quite reasonable, and you can expect to pay around €10* (about £7.30) for a trip into the city centre. Look out for hidden fees: people carrier sized taxis are more costly, and some drivers will charge you a little extra for transporting your bags. There are some car hire desks inside the airport, perfect if you're planning on doing a bit of exploring. Get the best deal by comparing car hire at Lisbon Airport with Skyscanner first.
