Terminal Information

Edinburgh Airport

Passengers are advised to arrive at Edinburgh Airport at least two hours before their flight to Faro is scheduled to depart, especially during peak periods. Ryanair does not have a check in desk at the airport and you must check in online in advance and print off your own boarding passes or use the Ryanair mobile app which keeps your boarding pass stored on your phone. For passengers who have checked in online and have suitcases these can be taken to the Ryanair bag drop desks located in the check in hall. Bag drop desks close 40 minutes prior to the flight departure time. If you would prefer to avoid any queues when going through security you can upgrade to FastTRACK which gives you the use of a dedicated lane.

When you arrive into the departures lounge at Edinburgh Airport you can take advantage of the shopping opportunities or grab a bite to eat at the variety of restaurants available. Shops in the lounge include Dixons, WH Smith, Boots, Kurt Geiger and Mac alongside many more popular brands. Some of the places to eat are Eat, The Gathering, two Wetherspoon bars, Starbucks and Yo! Sushi. If you’re travelling with children there are three soft play areas located around departures.

You can enjoy 2 hours of free Wi-Fi per device whilst you’re at the airport with additional time available for a fee.

Faro Airport

Faro Airport is 4km from Faro and is the main airport serving the South of Portugal. There is one terminal and in the arrivals hall you will find a tourist information point, car hire desks and a pharmacy.

Public transport from Faro Airport is limited to the two local bus services which go between the airport and Faro city centre. The bus service takes approximately 20 minutes and services are available between 5am and 11pm. A single fare costs €2.40 and cash is the only form of payment accepted so make sure you have euros ready when you arrive.

Car hire from Faro Airport is ideal for those looking to travel further afield into the Algarve. You will find rental companies such as Avis, Europcar and Hertz in the airport arrivals hall and the N125 provides easy connections to the A22 and E1 motorways.

A taxi rank is located outside of the terminal building, taxi fares from the airport to Faro starts from €10, depending on number of passengers and the time of travel.

What to expect in Faro

Faro is significantly cheaper than Edinburgh, in part thanks to the strength of the pound against the euro. You can expect to pay around 50% less in some places for food, beers and coffee. A three course meal for 2 based on the freshly caught local fish will cost around €30, a coffee is around €1.20 and €1.50 for a small beer.
