Terminal Information – Departing

Edinburgh Airport has one terminal which is easy to reach from the city centre by public transport. If you're flying with easyJet you'll need to check in online, as they no longer have desks at the airport. If you're taking an indirect flight to Athens with another airline, proceed as normal. Security and the departure lounge are both upstairs. You'll find plenty of great shops and places to eat once you pass through security. Shops range from high-street brands and duty free stores to boutiques selling Scottish art and souvenirs. Dining options are varied, ranging from pub grub and sandwiches to decadent seafood. If you really want to kick off your holiday in style, you can check into one of the business lounges. Edinburgh Airport has an Aspire and a No.1 Traveller Lounge, which you can pay to access regardless of airline or ticket type. The lounges both offer complimentary Wi-Fi, snacks and drinks.

Terminal Information – Arriving

Athens Airport is roughly 17 miles away from the city. It's served by public transport and taxis. There are car hire desks in the arrivals hall for those who enjoy the added independence of four wheels. Metro tickets cost €8* (about £6.20) and are usable on buses in the city centre for up to 90 minutes after validation. Stamp your ticket before boarding the metro to validate it: if you don't, you could be fined. Numerous express buses connect the airport to the city, and each one has a different route. If this is your preferred method of transport we recommend researching timetables in advance. Express bus tickets cost €5* (about £3.90). Taxis offer flat-fare trips into the city centre at a rate of €38* (about £29.50) by day and €50* (just under £39) by night.

What to expect in Athens
