Terminal Information – Departing

Cardiff Airport has one terminal. There are two long-stay car parks if you're driving to the airport, and prices start at £21.50 for the first 24 hours with cheaper prices on subsequent days. Inside the airport you'll find a Caffe Ritazza (perfect for those red-eye flights) and the Echo Bar if you prefer something a little stronger. If you're flying to Amsterdam you can indulge in tax free shopping at the Nuance Tax and Duty Free Shop, Fat Face, Superdry and Oakley. For an extremely relaxing pre-flight experience, book into the executive lounge. The price of access starts at £17.50* and includes complimentary Wi-Fi, food, drink and newspapers.

Terminal Information – Arriving

Schiphol Airport may be huge, but it's easy to find your way out and into the city. Arriving passengers are all filtered into Schiphol Plaza. This is where you can find the car rental desks (remember to compare prices on car hire from Amsterdam airport first) and public transport.

The train is the fastest way to reach the city centre. You'll find the train station downstairs from the Plaza. Tickets to Centraal Station cost €3.90* (about £2.80). Buy them from the ticket machines before boarding. If your hotel is in Museumplein or Leidseplein the Airport Express bus will be more convenient. Tickets are slightly more expensive at €5* (about £3.60). If you're feeling really flush, you can take a taxi: they charge anywhere from €40-50 (£29-36) depending on where in the city you're travelling to.

Practical Information

You need a valid passport to fly from the UK to Amsterdam. Try to arrive around 90 minutes before your flight is due to depart, or an hour before at the latest. Give yourself extra time if you're travelling during the school holidays. This is the busiest period for airports.

What to expect in Amsterdam
