Terminal Information – Departing

Bristol Airport has one terminal. The departure lounge has a small range of shops, places to eat, and places to chill out. You can stock up on sunscreen at Boots and Superdrug, grab some noise cancelling headphones at Dixons Travel, and some designer sunglasses at World Duty Free. If you forgot to pack your swimming costume you can grab one at JD Sports. Peckish travellers can grab a quick bite in Burger King or Starbucks, or relax over a proper meal at Dexters or The Cabin. Those who enjoy checking into the executive lounge have two choices: Aspire (£19.99* per person) and Aspire Plus (£29.99* per person). Both lounges offer complimentary Wi-Fi as well a range of refreshments. The Plus lounge is adults only and offers a wider selection of hot food and premium beverages.

Terminal Information – Arriving

The arrivals hall at Lisbon Airport is in Terminal 1. You can reach the city by underground, shuttle, bus, taxi or rental car. It only takes 20 minute to reach Saldanha in the city centre from the airport's metro station. Single tickets cost €1.40* (about £1.10) plus 50 cents* (about 40p) for the rechargeable 'Viva Viagem' card. This card works on all public transport: including buses, trams, and the Santa Justa lift. It also works on buses, including the five routes which serve the airport. There are two express shuttles which are a little more expensive. One serves the city centre and the other serves the financial district. Tickets are €3.50* (just under £2.75). There's a taxi rank outside the airport, and prices are fairly reasonable. It shouldn't cost you any more than €10* (about £7.80) for a taxi to Cais do Sodre in the city centre. Car hire at Lisbon Airport is also available.

Practical Information

You need a valid passport to fly from Bristol to Lisbon. It's best to arrive at the airport around two hours before departure if you're flying internationally. You can arrive 90 minutes before if you're only bringing hand luggage.

What to expect in Lisbon

Lisbon is in the same time-zone as Bristol and the currency is the Euro (€). English is widely spoken in the city, but people do appreciate if you make a bit of effort with Portuguese: which is a very different language to Spanish. During the winter Lisbon can be a bit chilly, with an average January temperature of 11°C. This is also when the city is at its rainiest.
