Terminal Information – Departing
Birmingham Airport has one terminal with a good range of shops, restaurants and cafe bars. Shops include high-street favourites like Superdry, Next and Hugo Boss as well as departure lounge regulars like Boots, WH Smith and World Duty Free. There are plenty of places to grab a bite, from quick kebabs (Deli Hub) and sandwiches (Costa) to healthy salads (Giraffe) and filling pub grub (Wetherspoons). If you need to unwind you can treat yourself to a glass of bubbly at the Blanc et Noir champagne bar or indulge in a manicure at Cloud Nails. Birmingham Airport also has some executive lounges which you can pay to enter (prices start at £21.99* per person). Featuring complimentary Wi-Fi, snacks and drinks, it's a great option if you want to chill out away from the general hubbub of the gates.
Terminal Information – Arriving
Bordeaux Airport also has one terminal. The airport is well connected to the city centre by road. The express bus leaves the airport every 45 minutes. Tickets cost €7.40* (about £5.80) each way, with discounts for over 60's and under 26's. There's a slower local bus, route 1, which goes to Gambetta in the city centre. Tickets are €1.50* (about £1.20) so it's the best option if you're on a tight budget. Tickets are transferable for up to an hour, meaning you can use them on other trams and buses once you reach the city. If you're staying in the countryside we highly recommend car hire, as public transport in rural France can be a little unreliable. Private shuttle transfers can be booked in advance.
Practical Information
You need a valid passport to fly to Bordeaux from Birmingham. We recommend arriving at the airport at least 90 minutes before your flight is scheduled to leave. Give yourself a bit of extra time if you're travelling during a busy period, like the school holidays, as security queues can be longer.
What to expect in Bordeaux

It's worth learning a bit of French before you go: make sure your phone is equipped with a good translation app for any tough situations. Bordeaux has a warmer climate than Birmingham: you can expect an average temperature of 21°C during July and August, and 6-7°C from December to February. Prices in Bordeaux are more wallet friendly, too. In saying that, beer is more expensive on average than it is back home: we recommend sticking to the local wine instead.
