Terminal Information – Departing

This is only a guideline. Always check your boarding pass for up-to-date terminal information.

From Schoenefeld: the only airport serving the former East Berlin, Schoenefeld Airport is fairly austere. Note that it can take a long time to get through security and most airlines recommend arriving half an hour earlier than you normally would to compensate for this. In the departure lounge you'll find a duty free shop, a newsagents-cum-souvenir store, a bakery, a Burger King and an Irish pub with a distinctly German twist. Pretzels and Guinness, anyone?

From Tegel: Tegel Airport has numerous terminals but they're all under the same roof. Most of the shops and restaurants are located before security.

Terminal Information – Arriving

At Charles de Gaulle: The RER commuter train leaves from stations in terminals 2 and 3. These trains leave every 7-8 minutes and take around 35 minutes to reach Gare du Nord train station in the city centre. The Roissybus coach runs from the airport to Opera Garnier in the centre of Paris and calls at all terminals. Air France buses are also available. Taxis to the centre of Paris are already very expensive (over €150*) and some taxi drivers will try to overcharge. Car hire is available at Charles de Gaulle Airport with most car hire desks located in the arrivals halls of terminals 1 and 2.

At Orly: It takes half an hour to get into the city centre using the Orlybus, which stops at both terminals. A cheaper option is line 183 which stops outside the south (sud) terminal. Another option is the Orlyval light rail, which connects to Antony station where you can catch RER line B. Car hire at Orly Airport is available, with most desks located in the west (ouest) terminal.

Practical Information

Paris and Berlin are both within the Schengen Area so you won't need your passport to travel between the two cities. You may be asked to show some photographic ID before boarding, so it's good to bring your passport anyway. Try to arrive at the airport at least 90 minutes before departure.

What to expect in Paris

Generally speaking, Paris is warmer than Berlin. During winter you can expect an average temperature of 5°C (compared to -1°C in Berlin) and 20°C in summer (compared to 18°C in Berlin). People in Paris are proud of their language, and are more likely to be friendly if you attempt to speak French before launching into English. If all else fails, the phrase "parlez-vous Anglais?" (do you speak English?) will be a massive help. Prices in Paris are a lot higher than prices in Berlin, with dinner for two costing about €10* more on average and a draught beer costing twice the price.
