Airlines that fly from Belfast to Rome

There are no airlines providing direct flights from Belfast to Rome. However there are a number of options with one connection included.

EasyJet fly from Belfast International Airport, stopping in London Gatwick. KLM, Brussels Airlines and British Airways all fly from Belfast City Airport, stopping in Amsterdam, Brussels and London Heathrow respectively. All of these airlines fly to Rome Fiumicino Airport.

Terminal Information

Belfast International Airport

Belfast International Airport is located 13 miles northwest of Belfast city centre. The airport has just one terminal and passengers on European flights are advised to arrive at least two hours before their scheduled flight departure time.

The departures lounge at Belfast International Airport has all of the facilities you’ll need before your flight. There are shops including Superdrug, WHSmith and a duty free store, and a range of eating and drinking outlets. Passengers will also find a currency exchange and will be able to access free Wi-Fi for up to two hours.

If you’d prefer to escape the hustle and bustle of the departures lounge, you can pay to access The Business Lounge. This premium lounge is open to all passengers, regardless of airline or class of ticket, and provides complimentary refreshments throughout the day.

Belfast City Airport

Belfast City Airport is located three miles from Belfast city centre. Passengers on European flights are advised to check-in at least two hours before their scheduled flight departure time.

In the departures lounge there is a good selection of shopping and eating outlets. Shops include WHSmith, Boots and a duty free store, whilst for food and drink, there’s the Bushmills pub, the Harvest Market Café and Costa Coffee. A premium lounge is also available for a fee.

Rome Fiumicino Airport

Rome Fiumicino Airport, also known as Leonardo da Vinci Airport, is located 35 kilometres southwest of Rome city centre. There are four terminals at the airport. KLM flights arrive to Terminal 1, EasyJet flights arrive to Terminal 2, and both Brussels Airlines and British Airways flights arrive to Terminal 3. There is a free airport shuttle running between the terminals and the car park.

The arrivals halls for all terminals have convenience stores, cafés and a tourist information point. Car hire desks are located in the Torre Uffici 2 car park, accessed via a pedestrian walkway from each of the terminals. Car hire companies based at the airport include Hertz, Avis, Europcar, Maggiore and Sixt.

If you’re planning to travel to the city centre by public transport, you’ll find bus, trains and taxis available. The Leonardo Express is the fastest option, a train which departs every 30 minutes.

What to Expect in Rome

Average prices in Rome are more or less similar to prices in Belfast, particularly if you avoid eating and drinking in tourist hotspots. A mid-range three course meal for two will cost around €50.00. Alcohol is generally cheaper in the Italian city. Public transport is also cheap, with a one way ticket costing around €1.50, and you can get an excellent cappuccino for just €1.15. 

Rome is hot all year round. Temperatures reach an average of 32°c in summer months, when many Romans leave the city for cooler climes. Even if you’re visiting Rome in December or January, you’re likely to experience temperature highs of around 13°c. Rainfall peaks in November but Rome is generally much drier than Belfast.
