Airlines that fly from Amsterdam to Hamburg
Germanwings, easyJet, KLM and KLM CityHopper all fly direct to Hamburg from Amsterdam.
Terminal Information – Departing
This is only a guideline. Always check your boarding pass for up-to-date terminal information.
Amsterdam-Schiphol Airport has one sprawling terminal, split into different concourses. Germanwings usually fly from concourse B, while easyJet fly from concourses H and M. KLM fly from D, E and F while KLM CityHopper fly from B, C and D. The airport has a massive selection of shops, selling everything from duty free and designer fashion to Dutch souvenirs and local cheeses. There are plenty of places to grab a bite to eat, whether you only have enough time for a quick snack or are able to relax over a three-course meal. There are plenty of bars and coffee shops, too. Wi-Fi is available throughout the airport, and there are no time limits. There's also a Servisair lounge in the Schengen area, if you want to escape from the hustle and bustle. Lounge access starts at £25* and is available to all passengers on every airline.
Terminal Information – Arriving
Germanwings and easyJet usually land at terminal 2, while KLM land at terminal 1. Hamburg Airport has its own S-bahn (commuter) train station, Hamburg Flughafen, which is located across from the terminals. Regular S1 trains run from the airport to Hamburg Hauptbahnhof in the city centre. The train departs from the airport every ten minutes, and the journey takes 25 minutes. Tickets cost €3.20* (just over £2.50). Alternatively you can take the train to Ohlsdorf and transfer onto the U1 underground line. Car hire at Hamburg Airport is available from Europcar, Hertz, Dollar, Thrifty, Sixt, Enterprise, Alamo, National, Buchbinder, Global Drive, Avis and Budget.
Practical Information
We recommend arriving at the airport no later than one hour before your flight is scheduled to depart: ideally you should arrive about 90 minutes before. Hamburg and Amsterdam are both within the Schengen zone so you don't need your passport to travel. If you're a British citizen travelling abroad, we recommend bringing your passport anyway. You may be asked to show photographic identification if you check in at the airport.
What to expect in Hamburg
Your Euro will go further in Hamburg than it does in Amsterdam. You can grab a cheap meal for €9* (just over £7) and a three-course dinner for two for €50* (just over £39). Public transport in Hamburg is more expensive, but taxis are cheaper. During August you can expect high temperatures of 22°C, but in winter it's a lot colder than Amsterdam. Temperatures can drop as low as -2°C in January and February.
