There is plenty to do in the Bayeux area apart from the outstandingly historic tapestry, the Cathedral is awe-inspiring, and there are plenty of restaurants and cafés. On the peripherary is one of the many War Graves Cemeteries in Calvados.

A quaint and peaceful town that attracts and loves its many tourists. It's about half an hour by car from the beaches and war memorials of Normandy and WWII. Visit its many small shops and restaurants and have a wonderful time.

World famous tapestry, of course, but also a rare city untouched by bombing so still as charming as it ever was.

The Bayeux tapestry is a fantastic record of the Battle of Hastings, the colours are still bright, the battle scenes are richly detailed and there are some great little touches. Just go early or midweek as it does get busy. It's an easy train journey from Caen and can be done in a day trip.
