Frequently asked questions
Discover Rodez
The capital of France’s Aveyron region, Rodez is a hidden gem that’s been favoured by French tourists for years. The picturesque town offers the perfect glimpse of the old fashioned France we’re so used to seeing in films and television. The atmospheric streets of Rodez are lined with 14th-17th Century buildings, and sprinkled with wonderful bistros, lovely cafes, and quaint open air markets. It makes the perfect base for getting out and discovering the wider Aveyron region with its pastoral villages and stunning scenery, and is only a two hour drive from the Mediterranean to boot.
Airports in Rodez
Rodez–Aveyron Airport (RDZ) serves Rodez and the wider department of Aveyron. The airport was opened in 1971, but really started coming into its own in the 2000’s. In 2002 Air France launched connections to Paris Orly, and in 2003 Ryanair began flights between Rodez and London Stansted. Since then the airport has been extended, with a larger car park and a new departure lounge.
Airlines that fly to Rodez
Ryanair offers direct seasonal flights from Britain to Rodez.
Getting into Rodez
Unfortunately no public transport is available at Rodez Airport, although taxis can be found outside the terminal building. The fare into the centre of town should be around €15-20* (about £11.75-15.65) although it’s always good to confirm a price with the taxi driver before entering the car. The journey takes 20 minutes on average.
If you’re planning on exploring Aveyron it’s well worth renting a car. Most of the towns and villages are quite spread out and public transport in rural France can be fickle at best. At the airport car hire is available from Avis, Europcar, Sixt and Hertz.
