Where to hire a car at Toulouse Airport
There are five car hire companies in Arrivals Hall C: Hertz, Europcar, Enterprise, Avis, and Budget. There’s also a Sixt in Arrivals Hall B. You can easily walk between the halls if you need to.
Petrol stations near Toulouse Airport
Depending on your car rental agreement, you may need to hand your car back with a full tank.
There are petrol stations on the main approach roads to the airport. If you’re coming from the north you will pass an Esso on the E9, and an E.Leclerc on the A621. From the south there’s a TOTAL service station on the A620, and from the east you will pass an Esso express on the N124.
Driving around Toulouse Airport
The roads around the airport are busy and can be quite confusing. Make sure you pack an up-to-date sat-nav to help you get around. The airport connects easily onto the A62 ring-road around Toulouse. From here you can jump onto motorways towards Paris, Barcelona, Bordeaux and Marseille.
Getting to your destination
La Ville Rose is a vibrant city often overlooked by tourists. Excellent vintage markets, wonderful restaurants, and a beautiful old quarter make it a hidden gem worth visiting.
It takes about 20 minutes to reach the centre of Toulouse from the airport. Follow the A621 road. Once you arrive you can park for up to two hours on-street in the city centre at a rate of €1.59 (about £1.13) per hour. Parking is free on Sundays and during the first two weeks of August. There are also plenty of public car parks in the centre of town. These have no time restrictions, but are a bit more expensive at €2.20 (about £1.56) per hour. It’s best to choose a hotel in Toulouse with a guest car park.
Carcassonne is famous for its Medieval Cité, a UNESCO Heritage Site which has captured the imagination of many artists and writers.
It takes just over an hour to drive to Carcassonne from Toulouse Airport. First you need to navigate the city’s busy ring-road, but once you get onto the A61 it’s smooth sailing. This is a toll road: don’t worry if you don’t have any change, as most toll booths do accept British credit and debit cards. You can’t park in the Medieval City itself, but there are plenty of paid car parks nearby. The first hour is free, it costs €5 (about £3.55) for up to 6 hours, and €1 (about 71p) for each additional hour. Car parks in the Bastide Saint Louis start at €1 (about 71p) for the first 75 minutes, up to €6 (about £4.25) for the full day.
Foix is the perfect base for exploring the Pyrenees and discovering the picturesque towns and villages of the Ariege.
It takes an hour to reach Foix from Toulouse Airport. You need to navigate the city’s ring-road before heading south on the A66 toll road. If you want to avoid tolls it will take about ten minutes longer: follow the D820 south. Free parking is widely available in the city and throughout the region.
