The capital of Spain’s Navarra region, Pamplona is a lively place whatever time of the year you visit. Most of the action takes place during July, when the Fiesta de San Fermin is in full swing. This is when the famous ‘running of the bulls’ takes place. Outside of festival season you’ll find plenty of great gastronomy, a gorgeous Medieval city centre, and lots of lush parks where you can enjoy the Spanish sun.  

Airports in Pamplona

Pamplona Airport (PNA) is a small, domestic airport, less than four miles from Pamplona itself. While it’s definitely the closest airport, some travellers choose to fly to one of the nearby international airports instead. From Biarritz Airport (BIQ), Bilbao Airport (BIO), and Zaragoza Airport (ZAZ) you can make the onward journey with public transport or hire car. 

Airlines that fly to Pamplona

No airlines fly direct to Pamplona from the UK. Air Nostrum is the only airline which offers flights all year round, from Madrid. There are seasonal flights from Menorca through Air Europa, Palma de Mallorca with Air Nostrum, and Barcelona with Vueling. 

Getting into Pamplona 

Bus number 16 travels from the airport to the bus station, and costs €1 (about 76p)*. The journey takes less than half an hour. 

Taxis from the airport to the city centre should cost around €13 (about £9.90)* although you should get an estimate from the driver before starting your journey. 

Car hire is available at the airport through Avis, Enterprise Atesa, Europcar, and Hertz. This is the best option if you’re planning on doing a lot of exploring outside the city, as public transport in rural areas can be a bit unreliable. Remember to book your car in advance.
