Petrol stations near Biarritz Airport
Depending on your car rental agreement, you may need to hand your car back with a full tank.
There is an Esso petrol station on the Boulevard Marcel Dassault to the south of the airport. If you’re coming from Biarritz drive onto the dual carriageway from Avenue du President J F Kennedy: the petrol station is located on the roundabout. If you’re coming from the west of Bayonne you’ll find another Esso just off Avenue du Grand Basque, near the hotel Ibis. There are also plenty of filling stations dotted around the towns: it may be better to fill up here before driving to the airport.
Driving around Biarritz Airport
The D810 road runs past the airport. This is a toll free dual carriageway which runs parallel to the N10 motorway. The D810 can be used to get around the region, and can even take you to Spain. Of course if you’re going further afield it pays to take the motorway. Although you will be spending a few Euro on the tolls, you will save an hour of driving time. It takes about ten minutes to drive to the N10 from Biarritz Airport.
Getting to your destination
A glamorous holiday resort since the belle-epoque era, Biarritz is where glitzy jet setters rub shoulders with gnarly surfer dudes.
It only takes 10 minutes to drive into the centre of Biarritz from the airport. There are seven pay and display car parks in the town, and a number of free car parks: at the train station, Fleurs racecourse, Biarritz Lighthouse, Marion Lake, Marbella Beach, Milady Beach, the horse club, and on Charles Floquet Avenue. Of course it’s best to look for hotels in Biarritz with car parking to make sure you always have somewhere safe to leave your rented vehicle.
With its magnificent old town and excellent foodie traditions, the Basque city of Bayonne is packed with culture and history.
Bayonne is a 15 minute drive away from Biarritz Airport. The centre of town is pedestrian only, but there are more than 2500 parking spaces spread over three of the central quarters. Short stay spaces can be found in Grand Bayonne, Petit Bayonne, and St Esprit with a maximum stay of two hours in the city centre and four hours on the outskirts. Obviously it’s a good idea to choose a hotel with guest parking to avoid any headaches.
The foodie capital of Spain holds more Michelin Stars per square meter than Paris, but frugal foodies will enjoy following in Anthony Bourdain’s footsteps in the celebrated tapas bars of the old quarter.
San Sebastian is just 40 minutes away from Biarritz Airport by car. There are lots of hotels in San Sebastian with car parking. On street parking is split into four zones: Special, Red, Blue and Green. Parking is free between 1:30pm and 3:30pm Monday to Friday, and from 8pm until 9am. On Saturdays parking is free between 1:30pm and 4:30pm, and from 9pm until 9am on Monday morning. You can park for an unlimited amount of time in the city centre car parks: expect to pay €1.50-2.50 (about £1.05-£1.80) per hour.
