Terminal Information – Departing
There's only one terminal at Glasgow Airport. The terminal has a soft-play area for children, and every guest is able to access Wi-Fi for free for half an hour. There's an executive lounge, UpperDeck, where you can enjoy a bit of extra comfort before your flight. There's plenty of shops at the airport, ranging from fashion and football to electronics and beauty. You won't be flying on an empty stomach, either. There's a good range of coffee shops, restaurants, and bars to choose from: including high street favourites like Starbucks and Frankie & Benny's.
Terminal Information – Arriving
Flights to Glasgow generally land at Gatwick Airport's North terminal. After getting off your flight you will need to catch the free inter-terminal shuttle. This takes you to the South terminal, where the train station and most bus stops are. The Gatwick Express is the fastest way to get into London. The journey takes half an hour and drops passengers at London Victoria. Single tickets cost £19.90* if purchased at the ticket office, but are cheaper if you buy them online in advance. Local MetroBus buses also serve the airport, as do easyBus and National Express coaches. There is a taxi rank outside the airport, but expect to pay about £90* for the journey into Central London. It's also possible to rent a car from the airport: compare car hire at Skyscanner to find the best prices.
Practical Information
You don't need a passport to fly from Glasgow to Gatwick, but the airline will want to see some photographic ID. We recommend using your driving license. Try to arrive at the airport at least ninety minutes before your flight is due to depart. Give yourself extra time during school holidays, or if you have luggage to check in to the hold.
What to expect in London
London shop owners are famously fussy about accepting Scottish banknotes. Although arguing about what constitutes 'legal tender' can be fun, it's best to be on the safe side and withdraw your cash once you arrive at Gatwick. London is a lot more expensive than Glasgow, and slightly warmer too. London is a sprawling city, but it's easy to get around using the tube. If you visit London a lot, you should consider buying an Oyster card. They cost £5* and it means you don't have to queue at ticket machines. The cards also cap your daily spend, so you can explore London without breaking the bank.
