Terminal Information – Departing

This is only a guideline. Always check your boarding pass for up-to-date terminal information.

Although Dalaman’s domestic terminal doesn’t contain as many facilities as the newly-opened international terminal, it’s large and there are plenty of places to sit and relax while you wait for your flight to Istanbul to be called. For some last minute gift-shopping, several shops sell Turkish souvenirs like olive oil, bars of soap, and spice grinders. Cafés selling coffees, cakes, and snacks are also available. As with many airports in Turkey, there is a higher than average mark-up on food and drink and many regular travellers now bring a packed lunch with them. Paid-for WiFi is available in the airport. To use the WiFi, you will need to purchase a voucher from one of the kiosks in the terminal. Business Class passengers flying with Turkish Airlines, as well as passengers holding ClassicPlus, Elite, and Elite Plus cards, can relax in Turkish Airlines’ new domestic CIP lounge. As well as the usual airport lounge facilities such as snacks and drinks, the lounge also includes a business corner and an infant care room.

Terminal Information – Arriving

Istanbul Atatürk Airport is situated roughly 20km from Istanbul’s city centre. Transport options to the city centre include taxis, buses, and public transport (metro). The cheapest way to get into the city centre is by metro. You’ll see signs for this at the airport (marked as “light rail”). To take the metro you’ll need to purchase a token or jeton. These can be purchased from the vending machines just before the ticket barriers or from the ticket counter. Note: during peak times the metro can be quite crowded and travelling with large bags can be difficult.

Another alternative is Havataş, the express bus service, which serves the main tourist areas of Istanbul such as Taksim and Aksaray. This bus departs every half hour and can be found outside of the arrivals area.

Taxis are also available just outside of the arrivals area. Istanbul runs a “Welcome Pickups” service with friendlier-than-average taxi drivers who will tell you a little bit about their city as they drive you to your hotel or accommodation. For those travelling outside of Istanbul, Hertz, Avis, and Alamo offer Car hire at Istanbul Atatürk Airport and have desks inside the terminal.

Practical Information

As this is a domestic flight, you should aim to arrive at Dalaman airport at least 90 minutes before your flight is due to depart and no later than 60 minutes.
