Terminal Information

Liverpool John Lennon Airport

Liverpool John Lennon Airport is home to just one terminal. Passengers are advised to arrive at the airport at least two hours before their scheduled departure time. As Easyjet no longer operate check-in desks at the airport you will need to use the online check-in option and print your boarding pass or download the mobile app which will store your app on your phone. Online check-in is open from 30 days before and up to 2 hours before your flight time. If you have hold luggage you will need to take this to the bag drop desks once you arrive at the airport, these close 40 minutes before the flight. Boarding gates close 30 minutes before the flight is due to depart.

Liverpool Airport offers a variety of facilities for passengers. The airport prides itself on the time it takes passengers to pass through security and reach the departures lounge. However, if you want to speed up the process further, Fast Track security passes are available for £3.50 when purchased in advance online, or for £5.00 when you buy on the day. With a pass you can join shorter Fast Track queues and avoid longer wait times.

In the departures lounge there’s a great selection of shopping, food and drink outlets. Travel essentials can be found at stores like Boots and WHSmith. There’s also a duty free shop and the Heidi & Pearl Salon where you can enjoy a beauty treatment before your flight. Food options include a Wetherspoon pub, Burger King, Starbucks and Frankie & Bennie’s. There’s also the Kissing Gate bar and restaurant which has its own designated smoking area.

Madrid Airport

Madrid Airport is also known as Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport. It’s located 13 kilometres north east of Madrid city centre and there are four terminals at the airport. EasyJet flights arrive to Terminal 1. Once passengers have passed through passport control and baggage reclaim, they’ll find car hire desks, cash machines, a pharmacy, a café and a range of convenience stores and up to 30 minutes of free Wi-Fi in the arrivals hall.

If you want to hire a car from Madrid Airport, you can choose from companies including Avis, Sixt, Europcar, Hertz and Enterprise. Whilst the city centre can be congested, the airport sits on a well-connected road network so it’s easy, if a little slow-going, to travel by car.

Public transport can be quicker and cheaper if you don’t need the independence of your own set of wheels. Bus, train and metro services all leave from the airport. Trains depart from Terminal 4, which can be reached by taking a free shuttle bus between terminals. Trains run on the C1 line and it costs around €2.60 to get to the city centre.

Bus and metro services both depart from Terminal 1. You can hop on Metro Line 8 on Floor 1 of Terminal 1. There are regular services and tickets cost around €5.00. If you choose to take the bus, there are both local buses and a dedicated airport shuttle bus available. The latter, the Linea Expres, reaches the city centre in 40 minutes and costs €5.00.

What to Expect in Madrid

Madrid enjoys warm, dry weather for most of the year. In summer months, the city regularly experiences temperatures of up to 40°c and, if you’re travelling in the spring or autumn, temperatures are still nicely warm when compared with Liverpool.

The cost of living in Madrid is generally a little cheaper than in Liverpool. You can find a mid-range three course meal for two for around €40.00, a bottle of beer for €3.00 and a one way journey on public transport for around €1.50.
