Airlines that fly from Washington to New York
Washington D.C. is served by three airports, all of which offer flights to New York.
American Eagle and Delta Connection fly to New York-JFK and United Express fly to Newark from Baltimore-Washington International Airport.
American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Delta Connection fly to New York-JFK; American Airlines Shuttle and Delta Shuttle fly to New York-La Guardia; and United Express fly to Newark from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
Delta Connection and JetBlue Airways fly to New York-JFK, United Express fly to New York-LaGuardia and Newark, while United Airlines fly to Newark from Washington-Dulles International Airport.
Terminal Information – Departing

From Baltimore-Washington: American Eagle from terminal C, while Delta Connection and United Express leave from terminal D.
From Ronald Reagan: The majority of flights to New York leave from terminal B, although American Airlines and American Airlines Shuttle sometimes use terminal C.
From Washington-Dulles: Delta Connection, JetBlue Airways terminal B. United use terminals C and D, while United Express use A, C and D.
Terminal Information – Arriving
At JFK: The airport is connected to the local train and metro network by the JFK AirTrain. You need to pay $1* (just over 70p) for a rechargeable metro card, then stock it with $5* (about £3.60) to ride the train. Manhattan is about an hour away from the airport by subway. Other options are the New York City Airporter bus (one-way tickets $16*/about £11.45: return tickets $29*/just under £21). Cabs to Manhattan have a flat rate of $52.50* (just over £37.50).
At La Guardia: You can reach the city by subway, express bus or taxi. Local buses connect the airport to the underground, and tickets cost $2.75* (just under £2). There's a New York City Airporter Bus to Manhattan: single tickets are $12* (just over £8.50) and returns are $22* (just under £16). Cabs are metered, but it should cost you about $21-30* (roughly £15-21.50) for the trip into Manhattan.
At Newark: This airport is in New Jersey but has excellent transport links to New York City. You can take the AirTrain to Newark Airport Rail Station for $5.50* (just under £4). From there you can take a number of trains into downtown Manhattan. The Newark Express Bus to Manhattan is a quick way to reach the city. Single tickets are $16* (just under £11.50), and returns are $28* (just over £20). If you're taking a cab you can expect to pay $50-70* (about £35-50).
Practical Information
American citizens don't need a passport to travel on this route, and can travel with their driving license. British citizens will need to show their passport for security reasons: no other government issued form of ID is acceptable. We recommend arriving at the airport at least 90 minutes before take-off.
What to expect in New York
Food prices in New York are slightly higher than in Washington D.C., but not too drastic. Expect to pay around $5* (£3.60) more for dinner for two. Public transport and cabs in New York are cheaper, which is good if you're visiting in winter as New York is a lot colder than Washington D.C. and you won't want to walk anywhere. The average temperature in January is 2°C but it often falls below freezing.
