BMI Regional currently offer the only flights to London-Stansted from Newcastle. This service is set to end in March 2016.

Terminal Information – Departing

Newcastle Airport has one terminal. The departure lounge has a small but well-formed selection of shops including World Duty Free, Accessorize, Cuba Lily and JD Sports. There's also a WHSmith and a Boots, perfect for picking up those last minute essentials. The airport has a good range of places to grab a bite to eat, too. If you're on the red-eye flight to Stansted a coffee from Greggs or Starbucks is pretty much essential. Burger King and Upper Crust are perfect if you need something quick, but if you're in the mood for something a bit more substantial you can sit down for a locally sourced meal at The Cabin or a tasty meal at The Flying Hippo American Diner. You can enjoy a pre-flight tipple or a soft drink at The Beer House, which also has a small outdoor area for smokers. If you're flying to London for work and want to conduct a bit of business before you go, we recommend checking into the Aspire Lounge. Terminal Information – Arriving

Stansted Airport has one terminal. Public transport is widely available from the airport, and is much more cost effective than taking a taxi (which will set you back around £70*). The fastest way into London is the Stansted Express, which calls at London Liverpool Street. It costs £23* for a single ticket and about £33* for a return. Coach transfers are cheaper, with ticket prices starting at £2* if you book far enough in advance. National Express and easyBus both run services to and from the airport. Stansted Airport has a huge Car Rental Village where you'll find all of the big brands. Remember to compare car hire at Stansted Airport if you want to get the best deal. Road travel times are subject to traffic, so if your flight is landing at rush hour, it's wisest to take the train.

Practical Information

You don't need a passport to travel between Newcastle and London, but you will need an approved form of ID. A full list of these can be found on the airline's website, but as a rule of thumb driving licenses, NUS cards, and photographic ID's from recognised companies are usually acceptable.

What to expect in London

London is a sprawling city with an excellent public transport system. If you visit London a lot it's worth picking up an Oyster card. You can buy them for £5* from the ticket machines in the tube stations. London has a milder climate than Newcastle. If you visit during the summer you can enjoy lovely temperatures around of 19°C and higher, and during the winter it's usually around 7°C. Prices in London are higher than in Newcastle, so bring plenty of cash.
