Terminal Information – Departing
Newcastle Airport has one terminal with a small but varied range of shops and places to eat. Tax free shopping is unavailable for domestic travellers, but you can still enjoy a bit of window shopping in World Duty Free and Cuba Lily. High street shops include JD Sports and Accessorize, as well as airport favourites WHSmith and Boots.
Flights from Newcastle to Cardiff are usually first thing in the morning or early in the evening. If you're on the red-eye flight you'll be glad to grab a coffee at Greggs or Starbucks. If you're on the evening flight you can enjoy a late-lunch at Cabin, which specialises in locally sourced food, or at The Flying Hippo American diner. The Beer House pub has a good range of soft drinks and beers, as well as a small outside area for smokers. If you just need a quick bite there's a Burger King and an Upper Crust sandwich shop.
If you want to get a bit of last-minute work done before you fly you can check into the Aspire Lounge. As well as unlimited Wi-Fi and a peaceful place to concentrate, the lounge also offers complimentary snacks and drinks. Access starts at £21.99* per person.
Terminal Information – Arriving
Cardiff Airport only has one terminal. The T9 Cardiff Airport Express Bus runs between the airport, the city centre, and Cardiff Bay. Single tickets are £5* and return tickets are £8*. The 905 shuttle bus runs between the airport and the Rhoose Rail Interchange, where you can catch trains into the city centre. Trips on the shuttle cost £1* and train tickets are cheaper if you buy them in advance. Enterprise, Europcar, National, Alamo and Hertz all have reception desks inside the terminal building. If you're planning a self drive holiday remember to compare car hire at Cardiff Airport. There's also a taxi rank outside the airport.
Practical Information
You don't need a passport to fly on domestic routes within the UK. You will need to bring photographic ID for the security checks, such as a photocard driving license. We recommend arriving at the airport at least 90 minutes before your flight.
What to expect in Cardiff
The climate and prices in Cardiff are similar to what you would expect in Newcastle. Cardiff is a lively and modern city with plenty in the way of history and culture as well as nightlife and gastronomy.
