British Airways will be commencing direct flights to Lima from London-Gatwick starting in May 2016.

Terminal Information – Departing

This is only a guideline. Always check your boarding pass for up-to-date terminal information.

It's likely that the flights to Lima will be departing from Gatwick's North Terminal. Trains to Gatwick arrive in the South Terminal, so you will need to take the free inter-terminal shuttle before proceeding through security. The North Terminal has a great range of places to eat, shop and relax. Enjoy a bite in one of Jamie Oliver's three properties, or choose from a range of international foods ranging from Japanese to Lebanese. Because Peru is outside the EU you can enjoy duty free shopping in designer stores including Ted Baker, Pandora and Sunglass Hut. If you're flying to Lima on business and have some stuff to finalise, you can check into one of the Regus Express Work Pods. They're sound-proofed, have Wi-Fi, and cost £10* per half hour for access. There are three executive lounges which you can pay to access, too: the Aspire Lounge, No.1 Traveller, and My Lounge.

Terminal Information – Arriving

Flights to Lima tend to arrive in clusters, so expect long queues at immigration and customs. There's a bus to Milaflores which costs 1* sol (about 2p). It's very cheap, but it takes a while. The average journey time is 90 minutes. The bus itself is comfortable and air-conditioned, so if you have the time to spare we recommend taking it. Some hotels in Lima offer their guests free transportation to and from the airport: we recommend checking when you make a booking. There's a taxi rank at the airport, and an express bus which leaves from outside the arrivals hall. Avis, Budget, Dollar Hertz and National all have desks at the airport. Practical Information

British Citizens visiting Lima on holiday don't need a visa: in fact, you can stay for up to six months visa free. If you're planning to work in Lima you will need to speak to the Peruvian embassy. Double check the amount of time you've been given, as you can get in trouble if you overstay your welcome, and keep your immigration paper in a safe place. You will need it when you want to leave the country.

What to expect in Lima

Lima is five hours behind London and the currency is the Peruvian Nuevo Sol. Lima is in the southern hemisphere, so their summer takes place during our winter and vice versa. It never gets too cold in the city, with warm temperatures all year round. The coldest month, August, has an average temperature of 17°C while February, the hottest month, has an average temperature of 24°C. Your money will go a lot further in Lima than it does in London, so there's no need to break the bank in terms of holiday spending money.
