Airlines that fly from London to Cardiff

There are currently no airlines offering direct flights from London to Cardiff. If you're happy to spend a few hours in the air you can fly via Edinburgh with British Airways (City, Gatwick, Heathrow) and Flybe (City) or via Dublin with Aer Lingus (Gatwick). There are also a number of European airlines offering connecting flights via a number of mainland European cities.

Terminal Information – Departing

This is only a guideline. Always check your boarding pass for up-to-date terminal information.

From City: There's only one terminal at London-City Airport.  The departure lounge is geared towards business travellers. There are only a few essential shops, coffee bars, and free Wi-Fi throughout the terminal.

From Gatwick: Aer Lingus flights depart from the South terminal, while British Airways fly from the North. If you're flying with British Airways and arriving at Gatwick on the train you will need to take the free inter-terminal shuttle inside the airport building. Both terminals are huge, with a fantastic selection of designer and high-street shops. They both have a good range of places to eat, and in the North Terminal you'll find three Jamie Oliver run establishments: including a pub.

From Heathrow: Flights from Heathrow to Edinburgh usually leave from Terminal 5. Remember to check your boarding card carefully before you go to the airport, as arriving at the wrong terminal can add a lot of time and stress onto your day. Terminal 5 has its own dedicated stops on the Piccadilly Line and Heathrow Express, and some trains skip it in favour of Terminal 4. Once you arrive at the airport you can enjoy plenty of luxury restaurants (including Gordon Ramsay's Plane Food) and shops.

Terminal Information – Arriving

There's only one terminal at Cardiff Airport. Public transport is widely available. You can take the T9 Cardiff Airport Express Bus to the city centre or to Cardiff Bay. It costs £5* for a single ticket or £8* for a return. If you prefer to take the train you can take the 905 shuttle bus to Rhoose Rail Interchange for £1*. Train tickets can be booked in advance. Practical Information

We recommend arriving at the airport no later than 90 minutes before your flight's scheduled departure time. You won't need to bring your passport if you're flying via Edinburgh or Dublin, as both cities are part of the Common Travel Area. You will need to bring some form of photographic ID: check the airline's website for a comprehensive list. Usually driving licenses, expired passports (up to two years) and other government issued ID's are fine. If you're flying to Cardiff via continental airports (e.g. Amsterdam, Geneva) you will need to bring a valid passport as you'll be passing through the Schengen zone.

What to expect in Cardiff

Cardiff is slightly cooler than London in terms of temperature. During the summer you can expect highs of 16°C (it's 19°C in London) and during the winter you can expect an average temperature of 4°C (vs 7°C in the Big Smoke). January is the wettest month in Cardiff, so if you're attending the city's New Year celebrations you might want to pack your waterproofs.
