Leeds Airport

It's recommended that all passengers travelling to Bristol arrive at the airport 2 hours before their flight's scheduled departure to allow time to check in and proceed through security. Leeds Bradford Airport has one terminal with two floors – check in desks are located in Check in Halls A and B on the ground floor of the terminal building. KLM, Aer Lingus and British Airways all offer online check-in which is recommended – but you'll need to print your boarding pass at home.

If you've checked in and have time to spare, you can enjoy a browse in the airport's shops, which include Cargo, WH Smith, Superdrug and World Duty Free. Use the 'Shop & Collect' service to purchase items before you fly and collect your shopping on your return.

Dining options include Burger King and Caffe Ritazza for a quick bite to eat, family-friendly dining at the Camden Food Company, The Saltaire Bar and Eatery and Sports Bar with its air hockey and games machines.

Passengers can access free unlimited superfast Wi-Fi 24/7 throughout the airport terminal.

Bristol Airport

Bristol Airport is located 7 miles south-west of the city centre and has one terminal. In the arrivals hall you will find WH Smith, internet desks and Caffe Ritazza, where you can grab a drink or bite to eat before your transfer to the city centre.

The easiest way to reach Bristol city centre is by bus or taxi. The Airport Flyer Express Link bus runs from the airport to Bristol Temple Meads Station and the bus station, on a circular route through the city centre (stopping at key hotels). The bus runs approximately every 8 minutes, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The journey takes around 30 minutes. Tickets can be booked online or you can pay the driver – it's £11 for an adult return ticket and £7 for a single, or you can buy a family return ticket for £23 (2 adults and 2 children).

Arrow Cars private hire taxis have a booking office directly opposite the terminal building near arrivals. You can book a cab in the office and be quoted a fixed fare to your destination, or you can pre-book online. Cash, debit or credit card payments are accepted.

Car rental companies at the airport include Avis, Hertz, Europcar, Enterprise, Budget and National – all have offices located within walking distance of the terminal.

What to expect in Bristol

Bristol is renowned for its maritime history and stunning architecture – it's a city of contrasts where underground music and street art sit side-by-side with historic buildings. Artists including Portishead and Massive Attack hail from Bristol.

The best time to visit the city is during the summer months (June – August), when there is less rain and more sunshine, with temperatures averaging 20-22ºC.

Bristol has a wide range of bars and restaurants to choose from, and dining out doesn't need to be expensive, although some city-centre choices can be dearer. You'll find plenty of budget cafes, delis and chain restaurants here, as well as waterfront gastropubs and restaurants for a more relaxed experience.
