Cathay Pacific, Shanghai Airlines, Juneyao Airlines, Hong Kong Airlines, Dragonair and China Eastern Airlines flights depart from terminal 1. This terminal has two Plaza Premium lounges, which you can pay to access. Spring Airlines fly from terminal 2, which has an IMAX cinema: perfect if you have lots of time to spare before departure. Both terminals are well equipped with a massive range of tech, fashion and souvenir shops along with an array of Western and Asian restaurants.
Terminal Information – Arriving
At Shanghai–Hongqiao: Shanghai's domestic airport has two terminals. Hong Kong Airlines and Dragonair flights usually land at terminal 1 while Shanghai Airlines flights land at terminal 2. The airport is well connected to the city centre. Express shuttles and public buses are available, as are taxis. There are metro stations in both terminals: line 2 calls at terminal 2 only, and connects with Pudong Airport, while line 10 calls at both terminals.
At Shanghai–Pudong: Shanghai's main airport is located 25 miles from the city centre. It can take up to 90 minutes to reach the city centre by bus, or just seven minutes if you take the superfast Maglev train. Spring Airlines, China Eastern and Juneyao Airlines flights usually land at terminal 1 while Cathay Pacific and Dragonair flights land at terminal 2. The terminals are within walking distance of each other and are also connected by a free bus. The Maglev station is in between the two terminals: the train stops at Longyang Road Metro Station. One-way tickets cost ¥50* (about £5.30) while return tickets are ¥80* (just under £8.50) and valid for seven days. The airport is also served by metro line 2, buses, and metered taxis.
Practical Information
You need a Chinese visa to fly from Hong Kong to Shanghai. Your passport will need at least six months validity on it from the date of your visa application (ideally from the date of your entry into China). You will need to apply for your visa around one month before your visit. Chinese visas cost £85* for British nationals. We recommend arriving at Hong Kong-International Airport no later than 90 minutes before your flight's scheduled departure time.
