Terminal Information – Departing
Exeter International Airport has one terminal. Once you go through security there's a small selection of places to eat, drink and shop. There's a bar if you need to steady your nerves before boarding: just remember to go easy, as flight staff have the right to refuse passengers who they believe are inebriated. There's also a coffee shop, where you can grab a quick espresso: ideal if you're on the first flight of the day. The airport also has a restaurant, in case you're hungry and have a bit of time to spare. There's an executive lounge at the airport, which charges £17.50* for entry. The lounge features complimentary Wi-Fi as well as snacks and drinks. If you're flying to Belfast on business it's a great place to relax (and finish a bit of work) before you board.
Terminal Information – Arriving
Belfast City Airport is only three miles away from the city centre, so it doesn't take long to get into town after landing. The cheapest method is the Airport Express 600 bus, which goes to Europa bus station in the city centre. Single tickets cost £2.50* and can be bought from the driver once you board. If you're in a hurry (or don't like public transport) you can pick up a taxi from outside the arrivals hall. There's no flat rate to the city (airport taxis are metered) but if you're going to Europa bus station you should expect to pay about £10*. Another option is car hire, which is available from Avis, Budget, Europcar and Hertz.
Practical Information
A valid passport isn't required on flights within the United Kingdom. You will be asked to show some photographic ID before boarding: usually at the departure gate. Driving licenses, NUS cards, and other government issued identification types are fine for this. You can find a full list of approved IDs on Flybe's website. For domestic flights you can arrive at the airport an hour before departure, although we recommend giving yourself a bit of extra time if you're flying during the school holidays as queues at security can be longer.
What to expect in Belfast
Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom and the local currency is the pound sterling (£). Norther Irish banknotes differ from English ones, so you might get a bit of a surprise the first time you visit the ATM. Bear in mind it can be difficult to use these notes once you get back to England, so don't take out more cash than you're going to spend. Prices in Belfast are slightly lower than in Exeter, and the temperature is slightly cooler. Our Belfast travel guide features more tips and advice on what to expect during your visit.
