Edinburgh Airport
When travelling on domestic flights within the UK you should plan to arrive at the airport at least 1 hour before your flight’s scheduled departure time. Easyjet and Ryanair only offer online or mobile check in at Edinburgh Airport which must be completed at least 2 hours before your flight to London Stansted Airport is due to depart. If you have hold luggage self-service bag drop desks can be found in the check in hall, these close 40 minutes before your flight departure time. If you do not have hold luggage to check in once you arrive at the airport you can go straight to security on the first floor of the terminal building. FastTRACK security passes can be purchased if you wish to avoid any queues going through security.
Edinburgh Airport has one terminal with a great selection of facilities covering anything you may need before your flight in the departures lounge. Your choice of shops include Jo Malone, Hugo Boss, Mac and Kurt Geiger alongside the airport essentials; Boots, WH Smith and World Duty Free. A wide selection of food and drink options are available, coffee from Caffe Nero and the WH Smith Café, lighter bites from Eat and The Gathering Deli and meals from The Gathering Restaurant, Yo! Sushi and the Fringe Bar and Eating Place. Whilst waiting for your flight there is two hours of free Wi-Fi available.
It is possible to upgrade your visit to Edinburgh Airport with the Aspire and No. 1 Traveller lounges. Both offer a quiet lounge with complimentary drinks, snacks and unlimited free Wi-Fi.
London Stansted Airport
London Stansted Airport is 30 miles to the north of London, in Essex. The airport has one terminal with flights from Edinburgh arriving into the domestic arrivals hall. After passing baggage reclaim you will be in the airport’s check in hall which has a selection of shops and places to eat such as WH Smith, Boots, Krispy Kreme and Pret a Manager.
Onward travel options from Stansted feature regular bus and train services into London. The Stansted Express train to London Liverpool Street departs every 15 minutes and a journey takes 50 minutes. Coach and buses available into London include the National Express service to Victoria every 15 minutes. Car hire from Stansted Airport is available, the desks are located in the dedicated Car Rental Village which is outside the terminal.
Practical Information
You will not require your passport when travelling on flights within the UK, you will however need to provide a valid photographic ID. There are a number of acceptable forms of ID such as an expired passport, driving licence or a CitizenCard. You should check the validity of the ID you are intending on using with the airline before your flight.
