Airlines that fly from Dublin to Alicante
Aer Lingus and Ryanair both fly direct from Dublin to Alicante.
Terminal Information – Departing
Aer Lingus flights depart from terminal 2 while Ryanair leave from terminal 1. Both terminals have a shopping, dining and entertainment area called The Loop. There are plenty of high street shops as well as airport favourites selling all the last minute bits and pieces you might need for your holiday. Sunscreen, plug adapters, designer swimwear: or even just a multipack of Taytos. There are plenty of places to eat and drink too, whether you're in the mood for a coffee or a cocktail. Free Wi-Fi is available through both terminals, so you can quickly check the weather forecast or do some last minute gloating to your mates.
Terminal Information – Arriving
Alicante Airport only has one terminal. Public transport is available in the form of buses, which stop outside the departures area upstairs from the arrivals area. Bus C-6 goes direct to Alicante bus station and tickets cost €3.85* (about £3). From there you can find onward transportation to the resort or town you're staying in. Car hire is a popular choice for people who are staying slightly off the beaten track, or for those who want to explore the Costa Blanca fully. You'll find all of the major car rental companies in the arrivals hall. There's a taxi rank immediately outside the arrivals area. Taxis in Spain are cheaper during the day (6am to 10pm) and on weekdays. Expect to pay €20-25* (about£15-20) for a ride into Alicante town.
Practical Information
You need a valid passport to fly from Dublin to Alicante. We recommend arriving at the airport at least 90 minutes before your scheduled departure time. Give yourself extra time to get through security if you're travelling during the summer holidays.
What to expect in Alicante
Alicante is one hour ahead of Dublin. The majority of people working in Alicante can speak English, but it's still worth learning one or two key Spanish phrases (for example 'hola' for 'hello', 'gracias' for 'thank you', and 'por favor' for 'please'). The prices in Alicante are much lower than Dublin, with a three course dinner for two costing around €30* (about £23.50) and a pint of local beer no more than €1.50 (about £1.20). The weather in Alicante is fantastic with hot summers, mild winters and only 20 days of rain per year on average. April to September is high season, when the resorts really come to life and the sea temperature soars. If you don't mind quieter streets and cooler weather (although highs of 17°C are common in December and January) you can find some great hotel deals in Alicante during the winter months.
