Terminal Information

Cardiff Airport

With just one small terminal, Cardiff Airport is easy to navigate. It is recommended that passengers arrive at least two hours before their scheduled flight departure time.

In the departure lounge there is a range of facilities for passengers before their flights including free Wi-Fi for 30 minutes, Forexchange currency exchange and a children’s play area. There are only two shops in the departures lounge, WHSmith and Nuance Tax and Duty Free. Here passengers will find a great selection of duty free drinks, clothing, fragrances and accessories. The shop also offers a collect service which allows passengers to purchase items before they fly and pick them up on their return journey.

Food and drink options include Echo Bar, which enjoys views of the runway, Caffi Cwtch, which promises a warm Welsh welcome, and Caffè Ritazza for coffee and snacks on the go.

Dublin Airport

Dublin Airport is located 10km north of the city centre of Dublin. Passengers arriving on Flybe flights to Terminal 1 at Dublin Airport will find a Bank of Ireland where they can exchange and withdraw currency and car rental facilities. Hertz, Budget, Avis, Europcar and Dooley all have car hire offices in the terminal building and can be booked upon arrival. Thrifty, Enterprise and Sixt also have offices here but they need to be booked in advance.

Passengers arriving on Aer Lingus flights to Terminal 2 at Dublin Airport will find a bar, a Spar convenience shop, a WHSmith and food court eateries. Car hire offices, buses and taxis can all be found downstairs on the ground floor. The closest car hire offices for Terminal 2 arrivals, including Hertz, Avis, Budget and Europcar, are located in the multi-storey Terminal 2 car park.

There are a number of ways you can travel from Dublin Airport into the city. Taxis are available outside both terminals. Airport shuttle buses and coaches also run from outside Terminals 1 and 2. There are a number of shuttle options to choose from, depending on where you want to go to in the city centre.

Practical Information

Ireland and the UK are part of the Common Travel Area. This means British nationals travelling from the UK to Dublin do not need to show their passport upon arrival. However, in lieu of a passport, you will need some other form of photographic ID. It’s wise to check with your airline to confirm which forms of identification they accept.

What to Expect in Dublin

You may find that Dublin is a few degrees colder than Cardiff although rainfall in the two cities is largely very similar.

Prices in the two cities balance out. While you may pay more for public transport in Dublin, you’ll pay a lot less for the average taxi ride. Eating out, you’ll probably find that you spend a little more in Dublin than you would in Cardiff with food and drink costing significantly more.
