Airlines that fly from Birmingham to London

There are no airlines currently offering direct flights from Birmingham to London. If you're willing to take a multi-stage flight you can fly to London-City via Edinburgh with Flybe, or to London-Gatwick and London-Heathrow with Aer Lingus via Dublin. It's also possible to fly to range of London airports via continental cities such as Amsterdam, Dusseldorf and Paris.

Terminal Information – Departing

Birmingham Airport has one terminal. The departure lounge has a good range of shops and places to eat. The airport boasts a number of high-street and designer shops including Superdry, Hugo Boss and Next. Airport mainstays such as World Duty Free, WHSmith and Boots also have outposts. If you're hungry you can enjoy a kebab from Deli Hub, a burger from Giraffe, or a quick coffee and sandwich at Costa. There's also a good range of bars including Blanc et Noir Champagne Bar, All Bar One and Wetherspoons. If you prefer to just kick back and relax you can check into the Aspire or No.1 Traveller lounge (prices start at £21.99*) or you can simply treat yourself to a manicure at Cloud Nails.

Terminal Information – Arriving

London-City: London's most central airport only has one terminal which is well served by public transport. Connect to the tube network with the Docklands Light Railway (DLR): trains serve teh airport every 8-15 minutes. Buses 473 and 474 both go to central London. There's a taxi rank at the airport and you can expect to pay about £35* if you're going to Covent Garden.

London-Gatwick: Aer Lingus flights usually land in Gatwick's South Terminal. The airport's train station is located downstairs. The fastest way to reach central London is via the Gatwick Express. Singles cost £19.90* on the day but are cheaper when purchased in advance. Alternatively you can take the Local MetroBus or an easyBus and National Express coach. The priciest option is a taxi, which will set you back around £90*. A number of car hire companies have a base at Gatwick. Remember to compare car hire at Skyscanner to find the best prices.

London-Heathrow: Aer Lingus flights usually land at Heathrow's Terminal 2. The Piccadilly Line (underground) and Heathrow Express both stop here. Single tickets for the underground cost £5.70*, and tickets for the Heathrow Express train start at £21.50* if you book them in advance. It takes about 15 minutes to reach Paddington Station via the Heathrow Express and one hour to reach the city centre on the underground. Alternatively you can take a National Express or easyBus coach. There's also a taxi rank and a number of car hire agencies operating from the airport. (remember to compare car hire at Heathrow Airport!)

Practical Information

We recommend arriving at the airport 90 minutes before your flight is due to depart. You don't need to bring your passport if you're flying to London via Edinburgh or Dublin as both cities are within the Common Travel Area. You will need to show some photographic ID: check the airline website to find out which forms are approved. Usually driving licenses and other government issued ID is fine. If you're flying via a city on the European mainland you will need your passport as you'll be passing through the Schengen zone.
