Aer Lingus is the only airline offering direct flights from Aberdeen to Dublin. There’s just one main terminal at Aberdeen Airport and flights arrive to Dublin Airport’s Terminal 2.

Terminal Information

Aberdeen Airport

Aberdeen Airport is small and easy to get around. The airport advises all passengers on domestic flights to arrive at least 90 minutes before their scheduled flight departure time.

Despite being small, Aberdeen Airport has all of the usual facilities in its departures lounge. There are food and drink outlets offering a range of snack food and more substantial meals, along with a range of soft, hot and alcoholic drinks. There’s a Costa Coffee, The Globe restaurant and Granite City, a bar which has its own smoking area. Shops like Boots, Dixons, WHSmith and a duty free shop allow you to pick up a few last minute essentials before your flight and there’s also free Wi-Fi throughout the whole of the departures area.

The airport also has a Servisair Executive Lounge, available for a fee to all Aberdeen Airport travellers. The lounge offers a quieter and more relaxing space in which to spend the time before your flight and there’s a range of complimentary drinks and snacks available.

Dublin Airport

Aer Lingus flights will arrive to Terminal 2 at Dublin Airport. After passing through baggage reclaim, passengers will find a number of shops and food outlets including a Spar shop, a WHSmith and a food court.

Ground transportation options from Dublin Airport are easily accessed from Terminal 2. Buses and taxis can both be found right outside the terminal building. There are also a number of car hire companies operating at Terminal 2. These include Hertz, Budget, Avis and Europcar and their offices are situated in the terminal’s multi-storey car park.

If you choose to hire a car, Dublin city is just 20 minutes’ drive from the airport. Travellers can also take an airport shuttle bus into the city centre from outside Terminal 2. Air Link, Aircoach and Airport Hopper all operate a shuttle service and which one you choose will depend on your final city centre destination. There is no direct train rail link from Dublin Airport. However, a short taxi or bus ride will get you to Heuston or Connolly rail stations with routes into the city and beyond.

Practical Information

Because Ireland and the UK are part of the Common Travel Area, you don’t need your passport to travel between Aberdeen and Dublin. However, you will always need some form of photographic ID in order to fly. The types of identification accepted vary from airline to airline so you’ll need to check with Aer Lingus before travelling if you intend to leave your passport at home.

What to Expect in Dublin

Dublin and Aberdeen experience largely similar weather conditions. However, you may find that Dublin is a few degrees warmer and that it’s more likely to be raining.

Prices in Dublin are, on average, cheaper than those of Aberdeen. You can expect to pay around €60 for a mid-range three course meal for two. Public transport and travelling by taxi are also cheaper in Dublin. One thing that will probably cost you more in the Irish city is alcohol. Both in bars and from supermarkets, the cost of beer or wine is higher than in Aberdeen.
