Hi Meg, Windsor & Eton are both very close to London (and only across the river from each other!). There's a delicious fudge shop, a big castle, lots of swans and it's picturesque. There's also Legoland Windsor a bit further out.

Home to Windsor castle, Eton College, and a very scenic town. Accessible by train through Reading and Slough. Great day out with family and the castle is stunning. Be sure to allow a day.

Such a gorgeous place, with Windsor Castle right at the heart of it, and Eton just on the other side of the river. Even without visiting the castle, it is still a lovely day out with the market and shops there, and the history dotted around the place.

I had a few hours before my flight out of Heathrow, so a friend dropped me off in Windsor while he went to work. Of course the main attraction in Windsor is the castle, and the queen. The castle is hard to miss. And you know if the queen is there if the special flag, the Royal Standard of the United Kingdom is flying. So, she's not hard to miss either. The early October weather was crisp and clear and I did not want to tour a castle, so I decided to walk the streets and shop a bit. There's lots of great shopping in Windsor. The main drag is Peascod and St. Leonards. I shopped charity shops and found a nice little cotton sweater on sale at a clothing boutique oddly named Fat Face. There are also lots of cafes and restaurants. On my next visit, I might go ahead and tour the castle.
