Graz is Austria’s second city, and may well be its smartest. As well as boasting six universities, it has strong ties to famous scientists such as Erwin Schrodinger and Nikola Tesla. During the day the city has a relaxed atmosphere, with plenty of pleasant shops to browse and pretty streets to wander through. Like most university towns it truly comes to life after dark with plenty of buzzing bars and nightclubs. The vibrant art scene, gorgeous architecture, and pretty parkland all add to the pleasant vibe of Graz.

Airports in Graz

Graz Airport (GRZ) is the closest airport to Graz. The airport has plenty of places to grab a bite to eat and lots of duty free shops, as well as a VIP lounge and an art gallery.  Free wireless internet is provided throughout the terminal, perfect if you want to upload your holiday snaps before flying home. 

Airlines that fly to Graz

No airlines currently fly direct from the UK to Graz, however it’s possible to fly indirect with Swiss, Austrian Airlines, germanwings, British Airways, Air Berlin, Flybe, Aer Lingus and InterSky.

Getting into Graz

There are buses from the airport into downtown Graz. One way tickets cost €2.10 (about £1.70). There’s also a train station a five minute walk from the airport, where you can take the S5 line into central Graz. Taxis are available outside the terminal building. The trip into town should cost around €20-25* (roughly £15.95-19.95) but of course it’s best to get an estimate from the driver first. If you would rather have your own mode of transport, you can hire a car at the airport. Sixt, Avis, Europcar, Hertz and Megadrive are all based at the airport.
