Airlines that fly from Glasgow to Lanzarote
Tui, Thomas Cook Airlines, Jet2 and Ryanair all offer direct flights from Glasgow to Lanzarote. Tui, Thomas Cook Airlines and Jet2 all fly from Glasgow International Airport whilst Ryanair fly from Glasgow Prestwick Airport.
Terminal Information
Glasgow International Airport
Glasgow International Airport has both a main terminal and a secondary terminal, connected by a walkway. Check-in for Tui flights is located in Terminal 1. Check-in for Thomas Cook Airlines and Jet2 flights is located in Terminal 2. Once Thomas Cook Airlines and Jet2 passengers have checked-in, they go to Terminal 1 to pass through security and reach the departures lounge and gates.
A number of facilities are available in the departures lounge. Free Wi-Fi can be accessed for up to 30 minutes and is then charged at a rate of £3 per hour. Passengers will find a range of food and drink options including Starbucks, Eat, Caledonia Bar & Restaurant and a Wetherspoon pub. The Upper Deck lounge is available for a fee and offers complimentary food and drink as well as free Wi-Fi and a games zone for children.
In the main departures lounge, there’s also a currency exchange and a number of shops including Dixons Travel, Boots, WHSmith, Accessorize and Swarovski. Passengers can take advantage of the airport’s Shop & Collect service which holds purchases for you to collect upon your return. It’s particularly useful if you buy something bulky or fragile that you don’t want to take away on holiday with you.
Glasgow Prestwick Airport
There’s just one terminal at Glasgow Prestwick Airport. The airport advises passengers on European flights to arrive at least two hours before their scheduled flight departure time. Ryanair offer both online and mobile check in which you can complete in advance.
Once passengers have made their way through security to the departures lounge they’ll find a large duty free store, a currency exchange, a WHSmith and a play area for children. Free Wi-Fi is available for up to two hours. For food and drink, passengers can head to Starbucks and McIntyres bar before security, or The Food Village or Elvis Presley Bar after security.
Lanzarote Airport
International flights arrive to Lanzarote Airport’s Terminal 1. In the arrivals hall, there are cash machines, the Buy Bye duty free store and car hire desks.
There are a number of options for getting from Lanzarote Airport to your holiday destination. The Route 22 bus runs between the airport and Arrecife, the island’s capital, on Mondays to Fridays. The journey takes just 10 minutes, leaves every 25 minutes and costs €1.40*. There are also routes to Playa Honda, Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca. Buses leave from outside Terminal 1.
Taxis depart from a rank outside the terminal building too. It’s worth noting that taxis will charge an extra €1.70* for journeys starting or ending at either the airport or the port.
Hiring a car is a great way to get around the island. Car hire companies are based in the terminal building and there’s Auto Reisen, Cabrera Medina, Cicar, Avis, Payless, Hertz, Europcar and Goldcar to choose from.
What to Expect in Lanzarote
Lanzarote enjoys a warm climate all year round. It’s the hottest of the Canary Islands with high temperatures of 20°c even in winter months. Rain is pretty much non-existent in June, July and August when temperatures reach the high twenties. Even though the island is hot, island breezes prevent humidity and help the temperature to drop a little once the sun goes down.
The cost of living in Lanzarote is much cheaper than in Glasgow. You can get a mid-range meal for two for around €37.00*, a bottle of beer for €3.10* and a cappuccino for €2.20*. Public transport is also considerably cheaper than in Glasgow.
There is no time difference between the UK and Lanzarote.
