Jet2.com, Thomas Cook Airlines, and Tui fly to Tenerife-South from Glasgow International Airport. Ryanair fly from Prestwick to Tenerife-South.

Terminal Information – Departing

From Prestwick: A Ryanair hub, Prestwick Airport only has one terminal. There's not much in the way of entertainment: there's a duty free shop and a WHSmith, as well as one bar and restaurant. The bar is named after Elvis Presley, as his trip to Prestwick Airport was the only time he stepped foot in the UK. There's a Play Zone for kids, and every passenger is entitled to two hours of free Wi-Fi.

From Glasgow International: Another one terminal airport, Glasgow International has a good range of shops and eateries to keep you occupied. Free Wi-Fi is available for 30 minutes, perfect for confirming those last minute details. Pick up a bargain at World Duty Free, grab some light reading for the plane at WHSmith, or stock up on last minute essentials at Boots. There are twelve places to grab a bite or a drink at the airport so you won't go hungry. There's also a soft-play area for under-six's and an executive lounge if you want to kick off your holiday in style.

Terminal Information – Arriving

There's only one arrivals terminal at the airport. The bus stop and taxi rank can both be found outside, and the car hire desks are inside the building. If you're planning a self-drive holiday remember to compare car rental prices through Skyscanner.

Public transport at the airport is good and inexpensive. Bus 343 connects Tenerife's two airports, stopping Costa Adeje along the way. A ticket to Los Cristianos costs €3.70* (about £2.75). Route 111 serves the island's capital and the major holiday resorts. A ticket to Santa Cruz costs €9.35* (about £6.90), a ticket to Costa Adeje is €3.70* (roughly £2.75) Los Cristianos is €3.20* (about £2.35). Finally, bus 350 runs from the airport to Granadilla. Tickets to Playa de las Americas are €3.20* (about £2.35), it's €3.70* (roughly £2.75) to Costa Adeje, and €2.45 (£1.80) to Granadilla.

Practical Information

You need a valid passport to fly from Glasgow to Tenerife. It should be valid for the full length of your stay. We recommend arriving at the airport at least 90 minutes before your flight is due to depart. Arrive at least two hours before if you have luggage to check in. Security can be busier during school holidays, so budget a bit of extra time if you're planning a summer holiday.

What to expect in Tenerife

The currency in Tenerife is the Euro (€). Although Spanish is the official language of the island, most people will speak English. It helps to learn a few phrases: hola (hello), adios (goodbye), por favor (please), and gracias (thank you) go a long way. There's no time difference between Tenerife and the UK, so no need to set your watch. The weather is pleasant in Tenerife all year round, which is why it's known as La isla de la Eterna Primavera (the island of eternal Spring).
