Five airlines fly to Washington from JFK Airport: Delta Connection and JetBlue to Washington-Dulles; American Airlines, American Eagle, Delta Air Lines and Delta Connection to Washington-National.

Three airlines fly to Washington from New York-LaGuardia: American Airlines Shuttle and Delta Shuttle to Washington-National, and United Express to Washington-Dulles.

Two airlines fly to Washington from Newark-Liberty: United Airlines and United Express to Washington-Dulles, and United Express to Washington-National.

Terminal Information – Departing

From JFK: Delta Air Lines fly from Terminal 2, Delta Connection fly from Terminal 4, JetBlue fly from Terminal 5, and American Airlines and American Eagle depart from Terminal 8. Each terminal offers 30 minutes of free Wi-Fi. Terminals 4, 5 and 8 have a huge range of places to eat and shop. Terminal 2 has a smaller selection but still has everything you might need before you fly.

From LaGuardia: Delta Shuttle fly from Terminals A and C, United Express fly from Terminal B, and American Airlines Shuttle fly from Terminal C. Terminal A has a very small selection of shops, and just two places to grab a refreshment. Terminals B and C offer a more comprehensive selection.

From Newark-Liberty: United fly from Terminal C, and United Express fly from Terminals A and C. Both terminals have a good range of dining and shopping options.

Terminal Information – Arriving

At Washington-Dulles: The SilverLine Express Bus offers a connection to Wiehle-Reston East Metrorail Station, where you can hop on the underground. Bus tickets cost $5* (about £3.50). Taxis from the airport to the East End take about 40 minutes in light traffic and cost about $75* (just over £52). SuperShuttle and Supreme Airport Shuttle offer a slightly cheaper door-to-door service, although you have to share with others so may make a few detours before you arrive at your hotel. Tickets are $29* (just over £20) for the first passenger in your party, and $10* (about £7) for subsequent party members.

At Washington-National: this is the most convenient airport to fly into as it's just three miles from the city. The blue and yellow metro lines serve the airport, and it takes 15 minutes to reach the East End. Tickets are $3* (just over £2). It costs about $15* (just under £10.50) for a taxi to the East End, and the journey should take ten minutes in light traffic.

We recommend arriving at the airport at least 90 minutes before your flight is due to depart. British citizens need their passports to fly to Washington from New York, even although this is a domestic route. Americans can use their driving licenses.
