Newcastle Airport
It is recommended that you arrive at the airport a minimum of 2 hours before your flight time for European flights. Online (which requires you to print your boarding pass) and mobile check in is available from Aer Lingus, Flybe and KLM if you’d prefer to do it before arriving at the airport. Staffed check in desks are available in two areas in the check-in hall, you can find your check-in desks via the information screens upon entrance to the airport.
Newcastle Airport is a single terminal airport which underwent significant refurbishment in 2015, and now offers a spacious, easy to navigate departure lounge to wait for your flight.
There are a number of shopping opportunities within the terminal, from places to pick up last minute essentials and reading for the flight, gifts, or some duty free deals such as WHSmith, Boots, Cuba Lilly and Biza.
Whilst waiting for your flight you can get something to eat, with a wide choice of tastes and requirements catered for. The American style diner The Flying Hippo, Eagle Bar Diner and The Wine & Deli Bar are ideal for those looking for a meal whereas Burger King and Upper Crust are available for those preferring a lighter bite or short on time. The Beer House is an ale house offering some of the finest ales which are produced in the region.
A Nameco Games arcade is available within the terminal which is ideal for those travelling with older children. 45 minutes of free Wi-Fi is available throughout the departure lounge.
If you wish to upgrade your experience at Newcastle Airport you can fast track through security or book a place in the Aspire Lounge which offers complimentary food and drink and also comes with a quiet area.
Gatwick Airport
Gatwick Airport which is 30 miles to the south of central London has two terminals; North and South. There is a shuttle train service which runs between the two terminals regularly throughout the day, it takes 2 minutes to transfer.
The South terminal at Gatwick has a train station with direct trains to London available every 15 minutes. Gatwick to Victoria station takes around 30 minutes, trains are also available to other key destinations on the south coast of England such as Brighton. Both terminals have a dedicated car rental centre with a number of car hire companies located here.

Newcastle and London have key differences, the most notable being the cost of visiting the city.
