Airlines that fly from London to Austin

British Airways offers non-stop flights between London Heathrow and Austin–Bergstrom International Airport. Indirect flights are also available, usually with a stopover in either Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, O'Hare International Airport, or a combination of international airports.

Terminal Information – Departing

Flights to Austin depart from Heathrow Airport's Terminal 5. The Terminal offers plenty of choices when it comes to restaurants and bars as well as other services like currency exchange facilities. Hungry? You can grab a quick coffee and cake in familiar high street coffee chains such as Costa, Caffe Nero, and Starbucks. Alternatively, for a last taste of British cuisine before you head stateside, there’s Huxley’s Gastropub or The Crown Rivers by JD Wetherspoon. Both offer British craft beers, pies, and comfort foods. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the airport for up to 4 hours or 8 hours if you’re a Heathrow Rewards Member.

Terminal Information – Arriving

Austin–Bergstrom International Airport is just under four miles from the centre of Austin.

· The cheapest way to get from Austin Airport to the City Centre is on the MetroAirport bus. Tickets cost $1.75* and the journey takes about half an hour Buses leave on the hour and half hour.

· Taxis are available from outside the airport.

· Many hotels in Austin offer a transfer service.

· Car hire at Austin Airport is available from  Avis, National, Budget, and Alamo.

Practical Information

As this is a long haul international flight, you should aim to arrive at Heathrow around three hours before departure. You need a valid passport to fly from the UK to the United States. Under the Visa Waiver Programme, most British passport holders can visit the US for up to 90 days without getting  a visa. If you are ineligible for the visa waiver program or if you want to stay for longer than 90 days, you will need to get a visa.

What to expect in Austin

Austin is six hours behind London and the local currency is the US dollar. Austin is one of America's top 5 most hipster cities, so prepare yourself for plenty of vintage stores and craft beer.

Regardless of when you visit Austin, you can always expect it to be that little bit warmer than London. Expect averages of 12°C in January, compared to 7°C back home. The difference is more noticeable during the summer months, with Austin typically seeing averages of 30°C in July and August compared to 19°C in London. For most purchases, from food and drink to petrol, you’ll find that Austin is cheaper than London. A three-course meal for two in Austin typically costs £39*, around 30% cheaper than the £54* average in the British capital.
