Thomas Cook Airlines fly from terminal 2 of Glasgow International Airport.In the departure lounge you'll find plenty of places to shop before you fly, including posh shops like Jo Malone as well as airport favourites WH Smith and World Duty Free. If you fancy a coffee before boarding you can pop into Starbucks or Mozzo Coffee House. Fast food restaurants include Fresh Food Central and Upper Crust. There are also a few bars (Tennant's Pier Bar, Caledonia Bar & Restaurant and Central Sports Bar & Grill) where you can enjoy some pub grub or a pre-flight tipple. One hour of free Wi-Fi is available for every traveller, and the airport has its own executive lounge: UpperDeck. All passengers can use the lounge for a small fee.

Terminal Information – Arriving

Sharm El Sheikh Airport is about 11 miles away from the resorts.

· Taxis are available outside the arrivals terminal. It's best to agree on a price with the driver before you set off. Haggling is encouraged.

· Most hotels and resorts in Sharm El Sheikh offer airport pick-up and drop-off services.

· Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz and Sixt all provide car hire at Sharm El Sheikh Airport.

Practical Information

We recommend arriving at the airport no later than 90 minutes before your flight is scheduled to depart. British citizens need a visa to visit Egypt. If you're visiting a Sharm El Sheikh resort for 15 days or less you don't have to pay, you'll get a free entry permission stamp. If you want to stay for longer or want to leave the area, you might need to get a visa: these can be bought on arrival and cost USD $25*. You also need a valid passport to visit Egypt: it needs to be valid for six months from the day that you arrive.

What to expect in Sharm El Sheikh

Sharm El Sheikh is an hour ahead of Glasgow and the local currency is the Egyptian pound. It's a lot hotter than Glasgow, so when you compare Sharm El Sheikh hotels make sure you look for ones with air conditioning. Temperatures sit around 18-19°C from December to February, with an average of 33°C during July and August. Note that temperatures can easily approach and pass 40°C during the summer, so if you can't handle the heat it's better to visit during winter. Sharm El Sheikh is, on average, cheaper than Glasgow.
