Terminal Information

Exeter Airport

Exeter Airport has just one terminal and you should arrive at least one hour before your flight to Newcastle is scheduled to depart to ensure you have enough time to check in. Flybe offers online, mobile and self-service check in at the airport with automated baggage check in desks available for hold luggage. The airport advises that access to the planes is via walkways rather than air bridges so it’s important to wear clothing suitable for heading outside.

You can avoid the queues at security by purchasing a Fast Track pass from kiosks before you reach the security area. You can then present your boarding pass and Fast Track voucher to staff in the left hand queue.

Once you reach the small departures lounge, you’ll find a range of facilities. There is free Wi-Fi throughout the airport for up to one hour. Passengers will also find a WHSmith and a duty free store. If you do buy anything from duty free and would prefer not to carry it with you on your journey, you can arrange to collect your purchases upon your return to Exeter. The shop and collect system allows you to buy bulky or fragile items and take advantage of sales.

The airside part of the terminal also has a restaurant, bar and café and a premium lounge which can be accessed for a fee. The Executive Lounge offers runway views, free Wi-Fi, complimentary refreshments and daily newspapers.

Newcastle Airport

Newcastle Airport is located five miles northwest of Newcastle city centre. The airport has just one terminal. In the arrivals hall, passengers will find Starbucks, Greggs, a bar, a Whistlestop convenience shop, a taxi booking counter and car hire desks.

Access to the metro station is located adjacent to the domestic arrivals entrance to the arrivals hall. The Tyne and Wear metro leaves for Newcastle city centre every 12 minutes and take around 25 minutes. There are regular connections to Sunderland too. Passengers can also travel by bus to Newcastle city centre; a number of local bus routes stop right outside the terminal building.

Taxis are available every day of the year and will quote for both short and long distances. Passengers can book a car at the taxi booking desk in the arrivals area or head straight for the taxi rank outside the terminal building.

Hiring a car is another option at Newcastle Airport. Avis, Hertz, Budget, Interrent and Europcar all have offices in the arrivals hall.

Practical Information

If you’re British national travelling within the UK do not need to carry a passport. However, you will need some other form of photographic identification in lieu of your passport. It’s best to check with your airline before you travel as to which forms of ID they usually accept.

What to Expect in Newcastle

You’re likely to find the weather in Newcastle is a little chillier than in Exeter. The northern city is usually a few degrees colder. However, is it also a lot less rainy so you may get away with leaving the umbrella at home.

The cost of living in Newcastle is a little cheaper than in Exeter. You can get a mid-range three course meal for two for around £32.00, a local beer for £2.70 and a coffee for around £2.40. Travelling on public transport or by taxi is also considerably less expensive than in Exeter.
