Terminal Information – Departing
East Midlands Airport has one terminal. The departure lounge has a good range of facilities, with one hour of free Wi-Fi for every passenger, some shops, a food court and an Escape Lounge. Do a bit of shopping before you fly at World Duty Free, Dixons Travel, and Superdrug. Remember to pick up some sunscreen in Boots and grab some light-reading for the beach from WHSmith. The food court has something for every taste, whether you're in the mood for a coffee and a sandwich (Flat White), a slap-up Italian-American meal (Frankie & Benny's) or a bit of local flavour (Pork & Pickle). Burger King and Grab and Fly are great if you're in a hurry, or you can linger over dinner at The Castle Rock Tap Room and Kitchen. The Escape Lounge offers a bit of extra luxury. For £19.99* per person you can enjoy a complimentary selection of snacks and drinks as well as unlimited internet access.
Terminal Information – Arriving
Ryanair flights land at Terminal 2. This is where the airport's main public transport hub and train station are, too, so that's pretty handy. The suburban train is the fastest way into the city centre, and one-way tickets cost €4.10* (about £3). Keep an eye on the station signs: this train goes through Barcelona and onwards to the suburbs, so you will need to jump out when you reach the city centre. Alternatively you can take the Aerobus Express bus, which goes straight into the heart of Barcelona. Single tickets cost €5.90* (about £4.30) while 15 day return tickets cost €10.20* (about £7.40). Local bus 46 takes a little longer to reach the city centre, but is a lot cheaper at €2* (about £1.45) for a single. If you'd rather avoid public transport you can catch a taxi from the rank outside the terminal. The journey into the city centre should cost around €30-40* (about £21-30). If you're planning a self-drive holiday around the Costa Brava, you will find the car rental desks inside the terminal.
