Terminal Information
Edinburgh Airport
Edinburgh Airport has just one terminal. Check-in desks are located on the ground floor. If you have chosen to check-in online, you’ll also find the bag drop area on the ground floor. British Airways check-in desks open three hours before the scheduled flight departure time and, Flybe desk, two hours before. It’s worth checking with your airline as to when they recommend you arrive at the airport, particularly if you’re checking-in online.
The departures lounge at Edinburgh Airport has a variety of facilities for passengers. Shops include WHSmith, Boots, Dixons and more exclusive brands like Hugo Boss, Jo Malone and MAC. If you end up buying bulky or fragile items that you don’t want to take away with you, the airport offers a Shop and Collect service meaning you can pick up your purchases on the return leg of your journey.
There’s a good selection of food and drink outlets in the departures lounge too with Costa Coffee, Wetherspoons, Thermidors Seafood Bar and The Gathering bar and restaurant. Other facilities include internet kiosks, a currency exchange and free Wi-Fi for up to two hours throughout the terminal building.
The airport also offers a choice of premium lounges which provide complimentary food and drink, daily newspapers, and free Wi-Fi for a fee.
London City Airport
London City Airport is located in London city centre, close to the River Thames. The airport has just one terminal and offers easy access into London. The West End can be reached in 30 minutes, the financial district in just 22 minutes and Canary Wharf in under 15 minutes. In the arrivals hall, passengers can get online with free Wi-Fi connection. You’ll also find Pret a Manger and Panopolis for food and drink to go.
A licensed taxi rank is located just outside the airport terminal. If you’re looking to hire your own car, you’ll find car hire desks for Avis, Budget, Europcar and Hertz located next to the terminal building. You can also use the London City Airport website to book a chauffeur who will meet you in the arrivals hall.
For passengers travelling by public transport, the Docklands Light Railway has a station at the airport and offers quick routes into the city centre and connections to the underground system. Tickets can be bought from the DLR counter next to the terminal building. A number of local buses also stop at the airport.
Practical Information
You do not need to carry your passport when travelling within the UK. However, you will need some form of photographic identification in order to board a plane. It’s worth checking with your airline as to which forms of identification they will accept as this tends to vary from airline to airline.

Temperatures in London are likely to be a few degrees higher than in Edinburgh, whatever time of year you’re travelling. The weather in the capital is usually less rainy too.
