Airlines that fly from Belfast to Tenerife
Jet2, Tui and Thomas Cook Airlines all provide direct flights from Belfast to Tenerife. They all leave from Belfast International Airport and arrive to Tenerife South.
Terminal Information
Belfast International Airport
Belfast International Airport has just one terminal, with check-in desks located on the first floor. Passengers travelling on European flights are advised to arrive at least two hours before their scheduled flight departure time.
A Priority Security Pass is available for £3 from kiosks adjacent to the security area. These passes allow you to bypass the longer queues through security and proceed to the departures lounge more quickly.
Once in the departures lounge, you’ll find shops like Superdrug and WHSmith, food outlets like Burger King and The Strangford Kitchen & Grill, and a currency exchange. There’s also Wi-Fi available throughout the airport for up to two hours free of charge.
The airport also offers a premium lounge, available for a fee which you can pay in advance or at the lounge reception on the day. The Business Lounge is open to all passengers, regardless of airline or ticket class, and provides complimentary refreshments and a quiet alternative to the hustle and bustle of the main departures lounge.
Tenerife South Airport
Tenerife South Airport is the largest of two airports located on Tenerife. It’s located to the south of the island. There’s just one terminal at the airport. Baggage reclaim areas are based on both the basement floor and the ground floor, with a main arrivals hall on the ground floor too.
In the arrivals hall you’ll find a number of fast food cafés including Caffe Ritazza and Burger King. There are also a couple of convenience stores and a duty free shop. Car hire desks are located on both the basement and ground floors. If you’re planning to hire a car from the airport, you can choose from companies including AutoReisen, Avis, Cicar, Europcar, Goldcar and Hertz.
Outside the terminal building, you’ll find bus stops and a taxi rank. Buses stop at the airport and travel across the whole of the island. You can expect to pay around €3.70 for a journey to the nearby Los Cristianos and will pay around €13.50 to travel all the way north to Puerto de la Cruz. Buses leave the airport regularly throughout the day but generally stop operating at around 11pm before restarting at around 7am. Taxis are usually available 24 hours a day. They charge a supplement of €1.70 for journeys starting or ending at the airport.
What to Expect in Tenerife
Tenerife is one of the Canary Islands and one of the most popular holiday destinations for Brits seeking winter sun. The island enjoys warm temperatures all year round, reaching around 30°c in summer months and still maintaining highs of around 20°c in winter. Rainfall is highest during November and December but Tenerife is still much drier than Belfast throughout the whole of the year.
Prices in Tenerife are a considerably cheaper than in Belfast, particularly when you venture beyond touristy venues and resorts. The average cost of a mid-range three course meal for two is about €32.00, you can get a bottle of beer for €2.00 and a one way journey on public transport will cost around €1.40.
