What to expect in Madrid
Madrid is one hour ahead of Edinburgh and the currency is the Euro (€). It's a good idea to learn a few Spanish words and phrases: not everyone speaks English. Madrid is a lot hotter than Edinburgh during the summer months, with an average temperature of 25°C. During the winter the temperature is similar to what you would expect at home, with an average temperature of 6°C in January (compared to 3°C in Edinburgh). April is the wettest month, so pack an umbrella if you're planning to visit in Spring. Prices in Madrid are lower, especially when it comes to wine and beer. Spanish meal-times start an hour later than dinner in the UK: don't expect restaurants to get busy until at least 10pm.
