Hotels in Batam

Batam is part of the Indonesia-Malaysia-Singapore growth triangle and a free trade zone. Hotels in Batam are understandably popular with business travellers, but there’s also plenty to keep tourists entertained. Pleasant beaches, great seafood restaurants, a huge number of affordable spas, and lots of interesting attractions mean that there’s something for everyone during a trip to Batam.

Most of the hotels in Batam are in Nagoya, which acts as the island’s city centre. There are lots of huge shopping malls such as Nagoya Hill (the largest in Batam) and Batam City Square (which even has a karaoke bar and a bowling alley). Other attractions in Nagoya include the excellent street food,  some interesting temples and the Ocarina Theme Park.

Batam’s infamous nightlife isn’t as seedy as it once was, thanks to the new governer. There are still plenty of great restaurants and bars in Nagoya, particularly in the Entertainment District, and an atmosphere as lively as you would expect from a town that was once known as Lubuk Baja (Pirate’s Waterhole). Many of the central hotels in Nagoya even have their own karaoke bars and discos.

Another town on the island is Batam Center. It’s mostly a business destination, and nightlife and shopping aren’t as varied as Nagoya’s. As a result hotels in Batam Centre are often cheaper. Nagoya is a 15-20 minute taxi journey away, so Batam Center is fairly convenient in terms of location. The city offers a few sights to see, with plenty of interesting buildings to admire and a Mega Mall for all of your shopping needs.

If you’re planning a more relaxed holiday away from the hustle and bustle, just wander a little further along the coast. There are lots of excellent beach and spa resorts along the north coast of Pulau Batam. If you feel like getting active you’ll find plenty of excellent golf courses on the island, and plenty of resorts offer their own water sport schools.
