Hotels in Augsburg

Whether you’re stopping over on a tour of Germany’s Romantic Road, or visiting for a longer city break, you can find the best hotels in Augsburg easily with Skyscanner.

Augsburg is one of the oldest cities in Germany, and the third largest in Bavaria. It’s a charming destination, with an old town full of cobbled streets and church spires. There are plenty of historic sites to see, including the Fuggerei (the world’s oldest housing project), the Romisches Museum (home to Roman artefacts) and the Shaetzlerpalais (which hosts an impressive array of baroque and rococo art).

If you’re visiting with kids, be sure to book tickets for the Puppenkiste. Modern and old fairy tales are acted out by puppets, with wonderfully elaborate set pieces. The shows are all in German, but are still perfectly enjoyable if you don’t speak the language.

Thanks to its university, Augsburg also has a lively nightlife with plenty of traditional pubs and trendy bars to visit. Most of the nightlife can be found around Maximilianstraße, which is known for its buzzing nightclubs and rowdy student bars. There are lots of beer gardens to relax in during the summer months too, where you can enjoy the balmy evenings and afternoons. Beer halls are a mainstay in Bavaria and are a great place to grab a stodgy bite to eat and a few steins of local brew.

Augsburg is the largest city on the Romantic Road, which is loosely based on the old Roman route through Bavaria and Baden-Wurttemberg. The trail runs from Wurzburg to Fussen, taking in medieval walled towns, lively cities, fairytale castles and ending with the Alps. Accommodation in Augsburg makes a great base for visiting some of these places, especially if you hire a car.

Like most cities, Augsburg has hotels to suit all pockets. There are sumptuous four-star hotels in the city centre, no-frill big brands on the outskirts of town, and colourful backpacker hostels for budget travellers. There’s something for every taste too, whether you like trendy design hotels or prefer traditional guesthouses. Whatever type of accommodation you’re looking for in Augsburg, you can find it the easy way with Skyscanner.
