the lake is great fun year round.. the snow on the mountains in winter flowers in bloom in spring , biergarten in summer and rent your own electric boat.. great great fun
For anyone visiting Bavaria, to not visit the Tegernsee would almost be a crime. Not as touristy as the Chiemsee, it's equally as beautiful and more "gemütlich". If you have a car, the drive is gorgeous and well worth it, but the Tegernsee can also be reached from Munich by the BOB (Bayerische Oberlandbahn) as well. As far as I know, the BOB and the Bayernticket are not compatible as they are run by two different train companies, but a BOB day pass is around 22 Euros per person and well worth the cost. For things to do while visiting the Tegernsee, there is a wonderful Braüstuberl that's right on the water and serves killer Obazda (a Bavarian cheese recipe that's served with bread or a pretzel). If the weather is nice, you can rent a paddle boat or row boat and head out onto the water or take the gondola up the mountain to get a fantastic scenic view of the whole area. In the summer they also offer paragliding off the mountain peak. The Tegernsee is by far one of my favorite places to visit in Bavaria and offers a pleasant respite from the sometimes over-touristy Munich area.
not to be missed and reachable even via the boatstrip: Tegernseer Braeustueberl www.braustuberl.de and the narrow gauge train from Tegernsee Bahnhof.
