Chile's second oldest city, after Santiago, and a popular beach resort. Most non-Chileans will bypass the city altogether, heading straight to the Elqui Valley. At the very least, it's worth allowing some time for lunch at one of the beachfront fish restaurants. If you're then heading on to the airport, just beware of the traffic.
Most do not stop here and there is not a lot of traveler infrastructure to warrant a stop. There is a huge long beach to go hang out but it is cold, and the water can be stormy. Otherwise there are some restaurants to find, and some discos to cut up.
I loved it and would move there in an instant
