nice small country ...wth limited places to see actually good for one night stay only .
I really liked Manama. Gritty but untouristed and unexpectedly interesting. Don't let CNN keep you away. Well worth a visit if you are exploring the Gulf and very different from the wealthier states.
Manama is the Bangkok of the Middle East. Saudi tourists flock here to indulge in drink, dance and debauchery in much the same way that Western men descend upon Bangkok for the same reasons. Manama is in fact full of Thai bar girls who ply the skin trade in the hopes of making a better future for themselves and their families back home. Corporal exploitation notwithstanding, the city boasts a lovely corniche, some fine Islamic museums and some of the raunchiest nightlife in the Persian Gulf.
I used to stay in Bahrain regularly and I always found Manama to be a great city. Plenty to see and do with beautiful mosques and fantastic markets.
