Where to hire a car at Bahrain Airport
Budget, Europcar, Hertz, National, Avis, Sixt, uDrive, Al Kobaisi, Montreal BH, Oscar Rent-a-Car, and Hanco all provide car hire from Bahrain Airport. Their reception desks are in the arrivals area of the terminal.
Petrol stations near Bahrain Airport
If you select a 'full to full' car rental agreement you will need to hand your car back with a full tank.
There's a filling station on Avenue 20, about eight minutes drive from the airport. This is the most convenient place to top up your tank.
Driving around Bahrain Airport
The airport is well connected to the island's highways. It takes less than 15 minutes to drive to Shaikh Isa Bin Salman Highway, the main road leading off the island and into Saudi Arabia. Traffic in Bahrain drives on the right. If you haven't driven abroad before this will take a bit of getting used to. Bahraini drivers are celebrated for being the best drivers in the Arabic region. Road users are usually courteous, paying close attention to road rules. Speaking of which, road rage is taken seriously in Bahrain. Make a rude gesture and you could find yourself in a spot of trouble with the traffic police.
Getting to your destination
Driving is the most popular way to get around Bahrain.
The capital of Bahrain is a pleasant city packed with cultural attractions. Al-Fateh Mosque is one of the largest mosques in the world, while the sea-front Corniche provides the perfect place for an evening walk. There's also fantastic nightlife, due to Bahrain's slightly more liberal alcohol laws.
It takes about 15 minutes to drive to downtown Manama from Bahrain International Airport. It's a small city, so you're unlikely to get lost: especially if you choose a car hire package which includes a sat-nav system.
Bahrain's second city is known for its bustling bazaar, its large football stadium, and its fantastic golf courses.
It takes about half an hour to drive to Riffa from Bahrain International Airport. Car parking is widely available. If you're staying overnight we recommend booking a hotel with parking facilities, for extra security.
Durrat Al Bahrain
A man-made island development, Durrat Al Bahrain is set to put the country firmly on the luxury travel map. Expect glittering shopping malls, an Ernie Els golf course, and thousands of beach front villas.
It takes just under an hour to drive to Durrat Al Bahrain from the airport. Most of the villas on the islands come with parking spaces.
