Tucked into a corner of north-eastern Italy, Trieste has a distinctly eastern European atmosphere. The bustling port city might not have any big ticket attractions like Rome or Pisa, but it does have one advantage over other Italian cities: a reputation for serving the best coffee in the country. Trieste has long been a favourite destination for bohemians, poets, and other creative types: the Irish writer James Joyce once lived here. Relax by the sparkling Adriatic, let the Bora wind blow over you, and find out what all the fuss is about.
Airports in Trieste
Trieste – Friuli Venezia Giulia Airport (TRS) is the international airport serving the city of Trieste, and a few border towns in nearby Slovenia and Croatia. In 2007 the airport was renamed to Friuli – Venezia Giulia "Pietro Savorgnan di Brazzà" Airport, in honour of the 19th Century explorer Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza. If his name sounds familiar, it’s probably because he also has a city named after him: Brazzaville, in the Republic of the Congo.
